How to Draw Cartoons

If you love the movie Nemo like how much you love to draw it too. Here are some ideas to help you get started.

This adorable fish has captured so many people’s hearts and is watched by many children everyday. You can now recreate this wonderful cartoon for yourself. You can draw him and then add your own twists to each drawing you do.

To start your drawing you may want to have a picture as a reference. You can draw it exactly or only use it as a guide for details on the character and make your own. This movie has many locations and environments so you have a wide variety of references to choose from. This will be fun for you, whether you take a scene from the movie or create your own fun scene.

Once you have an idea of what you want to draw you can get started. If you are using a picture as a reference and you want to draw it as it is then you can do a grid drawing. To do this draw a grid over your reference picture, then on your drawing pad or paper draw another grid with the same layout as the one on your picture but larger. Then you can get all the details and proportions correct. This is often a great way to start so you can get familiar with the character and its attributes.

If you would rather freehand these characters here are some tips you can use. You should draw a light outline of the character, using the lightest graphite pencil you have. Then add some of the other character details, the lines, the eyes and the fins. Then you can start going into detail.

Now that you have your character drawn you can do your background. Choosing something from the movie or creating your own. Have fun with it.
